User Interface: Devices

The following characters are permitted in the name: letters, numbers, parentheses, square brackets, ampersands, plus signs, commas, semi-colons, and tildes. Additionally, the following characters are permitted but cannot begin or end the name: spaces, double quotation marks, single quotation marks, hyphens, underscores, periods, and grave accents. For letters, the case that you specify is displayed, but case is ignored when Loftware Enterprise SP interprets a name. If you will be installing the Loftware Enterprise SP application on a computer running Windows Server, and transferring data between Loftware Enterprise SP instances, see the "Transferring Data in a Compressed File" section of the Loftware Enterprise SP Data Transfer Guide.

Ribbon Buttons

	New	Perform one of the following actions: Create a new device. Create a new Remote Site. Export devices in bulk by creating a file in CSV format that contains all the option settings for the devices configured in your system at a folder level that you select. Import devices in bulk by creating devices based on option settings in a CSV format import file. Tip: For more information about bulk export and import, see Importing Multiple Devices. Note: In a multi-site deployment A configuration of a Loftware environment that includes Loftware instances located at different sites within the same WAN. In a multi-site deployment, each Loftware instance acts as either a headquarters or a facility. of Loftware Enterprise SP, device connections can be created only at headquarters. They can be replicated to facilities by using synchronization, and they can be changed at facilities if allowed by the configuration. Remote Sites can be created at both headquarters and facilities to enable the use of a Loftware NiceLabel driver. For more information, see Using a Loftware NiceLabel Driver at a Facility.
	Open	Open an existing device or Remote Site.
	Save	Save the displayed object.
	Delete	Delete the displayed object.
	Undo	Undo the most recent change that you made.
	Redo	Redo the most recent change.

File Tab Commands

Command	Description
Close	Close the current object.
Close All	Close all objects that you have open in Devices .
Save	Save the displayed object.
Save As	Save a copy of the displayed object under a different name. Note: In a multi-site deployment A configuration of a Loftware environment that includes Loftware instances located at different sites within the same WAN. In a multi-site deployment, each Loftware instance acts as either a headquarters or a facility. of Loftware Enterprise SP, device connections can be created only at headquarters. They can be replicated to facilities by using synchronization, and they can be changed at facilities if allowed by the configuration. Remote Sites can be created at both headquarters and facilities to enable the use of a Loftware NiceLabel driver. For more information, see Using a Loftware NiceLabel Driver at a Facility.
Delete	Delete the displayed object.

Version Control

The following commands are available only for objects that are version controlled The following types of objects are version controlled when saved in a version-controlled folder: label templates, forms, images, layer objects, layouts, reusable objects, field data catalogs, applications, business rules, processes, workflow templates, and data services. Images do not support minor versions..

Command	Description
Check In	Save the current version of the object and make this the object available for publishing or for others to check out. Checking in creates a version that can no longer be altered. Available only to the user who checked out or has taken control of the object.
Check Out	Create a new, editable version of the object, incrementing the minor version number. Other users cannot change the object or view the version that you have created until it is checked in. Available only for an object that is checked in.
Undo Check Out	Undo any changes made since the object was most recently checked out, and then check it in. The checked out version is discarded and the version number is decremented to that of the previous version. If you took control of the object from the user who checked it out, changes made by the other user since it was last checked out are discarded. Available only to the user who checked out or has taken control of the object.
Publish	Check in and create a new published version of the object, incrementing the major version number and setting the minor version number to zero. Available only to users with Publish (PB) permission for or Catalogs.
Undo Publish	Delete the published version When version control is used, a version for which the minor version number is zero. Users with some permissions can print only the latest published version. with the highest version number. The next latest version that remains may be a minor version. WARNING: If you have already initiated a print job using the published version or have used or link to that version, you may get unexpected results. Available only to users with Publish (PB) permission for or Catalogs and only if the current version of the object is a published version.

Home Tab Commands

The following commands are available to allow you to start and stop a device group.

Note: This tab is not displayed for a new device until it has been saved. These commands are not available for a device template An object that includes settings for a device but cannot be started as a service and cannot consume a device seat. You can use Save As to create a device based on the device template. or a Remote Site.

	Start Device Group	If a device group is not running, the option to start it is active. You can view the status of the device service in the Properties pane.
	Stop Device Group	If a device service is running, the option to stop it is active. You can view the status of the device service in the Properties pane.

View Tab Commands

Button	Command	Description
	Properties	Open the Properties pane and display the properties of the object.
	Tags	Add or change the tags assigned to the object. In Loftware Enterprise SP, users can categorize certain objects by assigning tags to them. Each tag has a category and a value. A tag can be assigned to an application, business rule, data service, device group, facility, field data catalog, form, image, integration, label template, layer object, layout, process, Remote Site, reusable object, user, or workflow template. If an object is version-controlled, you can only add or change tags assigned to the current checked-out version, and you cannot change tags in a previously checked-in version. For more information, see Categorize a Device.
	Device Model	Change the family and model of the device. These selections impact what options are displayed for the device. This command is displayed only for a device.
	Service Management	If your Loftware Enterprise SP environment is configured to support distributed services, configure failover of device group services between Loftware Application Servers. These options are also available in System . Important! Whenever you add a new device, data service, integration, or facility, you must ensure that the service is activated on all Loftware Application Servers on which it should be available to run and started on at least one. In an environment with only one Loftware Application Server, these types of services are automatically activated and started when they are created. For more information, see High Availability with Distributed Services. Note: By default, devices configured for use with a remote site are read-only in Loftware Enterprise SP and are managed by the Loftware Print Agent (LPA) or Remote Print Agent (RPA). If you want to manage devices that are configured for use with a remote site instead, see Manage Remote Site Device Services. This command is displayed only for a device.

Options Pane for a Device

The Connection tab allows you to configure the connection for a device. This tab is displayed only after a Family and Model have been specified for the device, and those selections determine the connection types available. Only options appropriate for the selected connection type are displayed.

The Options, Media, Fonts, Barcode Imaging, Detailed Status, Advanced, and Custom Commands tabs allow you to configure options that are specific to a particular device family driver. The options included and which tabs are displayed depend on the Family and Model selected.

Properties Pane for a Device

The following properties are displayed in the Properties pane when you view a device with Loftware Enterprise SP.

Option	Description
Device Group Name	A unique name for this device.
Description	A description for this device.
Synchronize	Whether to replicate this device connection to facilities using synchronization. Note: In a multi-site deployment A configuration of a Loftware environment that includes Loftware instances located at different sites within the same WAN. In a multi-site deployment, each Loftware instance acts as either a headquarters or a facility. of Loftware Enterprise SP, device connections can be created only at headquarters. They can be replicated to facilities by using synchronization, and they can be changed at facilities if allowed by the configuration. Family	The device family of this device. In the View tab of the ribbon, you can change this value by clicking Device Model.
Model	The device model of this device. In the View tab of the ribbon, you can change this value by clicking Device Model.
Configured Status	The value of this property is not displayed until the device has been saved for the first time.
Status	The value of this property is not displayed until the device has been saved for the first time.

Options Pane for a Remote Site

The Configuration panel in this pane allows you to view the properties of a Remote Site, configure options, and download the Loftware Print Agent so that it can be installed on a remote computer.
