DevicesConfigure a Remote Site

Loftware Remote Print enables users to print from Loftware Enterprise SP using devices that are not directly accessible by a Loftware Application Server. To use this approach, an administrator must configure a Remote Site—an object in Loftware Enterprise SP that represents the location of a computer that has wired, wireless, or network connections to devices that are not directly accessible by a Loftware Application Server. Each Remote Site can communicate with only one Loftware Application Server. As a best practice, it is recommended that you deploy a single remote computer per location or logical grouping of printer devices.

Important:
  • Configure a maximum of 1000 Remote Sites per Loftware Application Server.
  • Configure a maximum of 250 devices per Remote Site.
  • Configure a maximum of 2000 devices across all Remote Sites.
  • If you are configuring a large number of devices on a single Remote Site in a distributed services environment, you should consider enabling the "Sticky Device" functionality. For more information, see Manage Remote Site Device Services and contact Loftware for assistance.
  • A Medium Service internet speed of 12 to 25 Mbps is recommended.
  • The Remote Print client computer should not belong to an end-user.
  • The Remote Print client computer should be available at all times. It should never be configured to sleep.
  • There should be no virus scan in effect on the folder where the LoftwarePrintAgent.exe is installed.

To configure a Remote Site, an administrator should use the following procedure.

  1. In Devices Devices, in the ribbon click Add > Remote Site to create a new Remote Site.
  2. For Maximum Number of Devices, enter a limit for the number of devices that the administrator of the remote computer can create for use with Loftware Enterprise SP at the Remote Site.
  3. In the Properties pane, enter a description of the Remote Site.
  4. In the ribbon, click Save Save and then enter a name for the Remote Site.
  5. After you save the Remote Site for the first time, the token for the Loftware Print Agent is displayed along with a button that allows administrators to download the Loftware Print Agent. For more information, see User Interface: Remote Site Options.

Provide the administrator of the remote computer with the name of the Remote Site, and direct that administrator to install the Loftware Print Agent. For more information, see Install the Loftware Print Agent.

Important: If your Loftware Application Server URL is a secured access port (https), ensure that you have applied both the intermediate and root certificates to the <LOFTSTORE_HOME>/product/conf/cacerts truststore, as described in "Configuring HTTPS" in the Loftware Enterprise SP Installation and Configuration Guide.
