Version controlClosed The ability to maintain distinct versions of a label template or other object. An object is checked out to be modified, and checked in to save a new version. Images do not support minor versions. in the folder. Version control can be enabled or disabled only during the creation of a folder. After you have saved a new folder, you can no longer change the version control setting for it.

Turn on Version Control for New Objects

  • To create a folder in which all objects that can be version controlled will be version controlled, set Version Control to On when you create the folder. For more information, see Create a Folder.
  • To create a version-controlled object, create and save the object into a version-controlled folder. For more information, see Create a Label Template or Import a New Image.

Turn on Version Control for Existing Objects

You can convert existing objects to version-controlled objects by copying or moving them into new folders for which version control is turned on. To turn on version control for existing objects, perform the following steps.

  1. In Access Control Access Control, click the folder containing the existing objects.

    In the Access Control Tree, click the Loftware/Example folder.

  2. In the ribbon, click Home > Edit.
  3. Change the folder Name to something similar, and then click Save .
  4. Example

    Change the name of the folder Example to Original Example.

  5. Click the current folder's parent folder, and then click Create Folder.
  6. Example

    Click the Loftware folder in the Access Control Tree, and then click Create Folder.

  7. Give the new folder the name of the original folder.
  8. Example

    Name the new folder Example.

  9. For Version Control, select On.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Do one of the following to copy or move the existing objects to the version-controlled folder.

    Copy the Existing Objects

    1. Open each object in Label Design Label Design, Application Design , Process Design Process Design, or Data Services Data Services as applicable.
    2. Use File > Save As to save each object to the new version-controlled folder.

    Important! If label templates are typically copied from one folder to another, it is recommended that layouts and label templates be saved in separate folders to prevent confusion. If associated layouts and label templates are mingled in the same folder, when you copy all items in the folder to a second folder, label templates in the second folder are still associated with the layouts in the original folder.

    Move the Existing Objects

    1. In Access Control Access Control, right-click the object and select Move to.
    2. Select the new version-controlled folder, and then click OK.
  12. Ensure that the permissions on the new version-controlled folder are the same as those configured on the original folder.
  13. If you have multiple Loftware Enterprise SP environments, repeat these steps in all environments.
