DesignLink Text Boxes

You can link text boxes to each other so that any text that does not fit into one text box can flow into another text box. Linked text boxes are useful if you want to move overflow text into another text box or create columns with different widths. You can configure the order of linked text boxes to control the flow of text from one text box to another. You can also specify a border color for a group of linked text boxes in Label Design Label Design to simplify the design process.

Linking Text Boxes

You can link text boxes by selecting the text boxes in the canvas or by selecting the text boxes from a list.

Linking Text Boxes by Selecting Text Boxes in the Canvas

  1. In the Insert tab of a label template, click and drag two or more Text Box fields to the Label view. For more information, see Add Text Box.
  2. Select the text boxes you want to link. You can use either of the following methods to select multiple text boxes.
    • Click and drag over the text boxes. Envelopes appear around the selected text boxes.
    • Press and hold the Shift key and click the text boxes.
  3. Right-click the selection and then click Link Selected Text Boxes. The selected text boxes now include a link indicator and number.

Linking Text Boxes by Selecting Text Boxes from a List

  1. In the Insert tab of a label template, click and drag two or more Text Box fields to the Label view. For more information, see Add Text Box.
  2. In the View tab of the label template, click Linked Text Box Group. The Linked Text Box Group box is displayed without any rows.
  3. In the Linked Text Box Group box, click the add icon. The Create Linked Text Box Group box is displayed.
  4. Select two or more text boxes from the list, and then click OK.The selected text boxes now include a link indicator and number.

Reordering Linked Text Boxes

If two or more text boxes are linked, you can configure the order of the linked text boxes to control the flow of text from one text box to another.

  1. Click one of the linked text boxes on the canvas.
  2. In the View tab of the label template containing the linked text boxes, click Linked Text Box Group.
  3. In the Linked Text Box Group box, click the order icon in the row of the text box you want to reorder, and drag it into the intended order. The numbers in the text boxes on the canvas are updated to reflect the new order.

Add a Border Color to Linked Text Boxes

You can specify a border color for a group of linked text boxes in Label Design Label Design to simplify the design process.

  1. Click one of the linked text boxes on the canvas.
  2. In the View tab of the label template containing the linked text boxes, click Linked Text Box Group.
  3. In the Linked Text Box Group box, click the Border Color box, select or enter a color, and then click OK.

Unlink Text Boxes

You can unlink text boxes by selecting the text boxes in the canvas or by selecting the text boxes from a list.

Unlinking Text Boxes by Selecting Text Boxes in the Canvas

  1. In the label template canvas, select the text box or boxes you want to unlink. You can use either of the following methods to select multiple text boxes.
    • Click and drag over the text boxes. Envelopes appear around the selected text boxes.
    • Press and hold the Shift key and click the text boxes.
  2. Right-click the selection and then click Unlink Selected Text Boxes. The link indicator and number are no longer displayed in the selected text box or boxes.

Unlinking Text Boxes by Selecting Text Boxes from a List

  1. In the View tab of the label template, click Linked Text Box Group. The Linked Text Box Group box is displayed without any rows.
  2. Select any text box in the label canvas that belongs to a Linked Text Box Group. All text boxes within that group are displayed in the Linked Text Box Group box.
  3. Select the row of any individual text box in the Linked Text Box Group box, and then click the remove icon. The link indicator and number are no longer displayed in the selected text box or boxes.
