Add Text Box
To add a Text Box field to the Label view, use the following procedures. For information on linked text boxes, see Link Text Boxes.
Note: Text Box fields are always sent to the printer as images. They do not use a printer's native fonts.
Tip: For data that must fill a region of a specific size or for which you want to control paragraph spacing, a Text Box field is recommended. For data that must be restricted to a specific number of characters, a Variable Text field is recommended.
Add a Text Box Field
- In the Insert tab, click and drag Text Box to the Label view.
- Double click the Text Box field. The Edit Text Box Default Data dialog box is displayed.
- Type the default text for the Text Box field in the Enter Text field.
- Click OK. The text is displayed in the label template.
Modify the Default Data for a Text Box
- Double click the Text Box field. The Edit Text Box Default Data dialog box is displayed.
- Modify the text in the Enter Text field, and click OK.
The changed text is reflected in the Label view and in the Default Value property in the Properties pane.
Tip: The option selected for Design Data in the View tab controls what data is used in fields and areas when previewed, printed, or displayed in Label Design
For each field, the value specified in the Default Value property for that field., placeholder data For a Variable Text field, the series of digits 1234567890, repeated until the maximum number of characters allowed for the field is displayed. For a barcode field, a sample barcode that adheres to the specified properties. For an image field, a sample image. Whether placeholder data is used in Label Design is controlled by the selection for Design Data., or data from a live data set A collection of data (names and values) that was retrieved from a data source and is specific to a label template or a reusable object. A data set can be used to populate fields displayed in Label Design, in a preview, and when test printing. can be used. For more information, see Select Data to Display in Label Design.
When Data Exceeds the Space
When configuring a Text Box field, the following is the behavior when data exceeds the length of a line or the size of the Text Box and you are not using linked text boxes. For information on linked text boxes, see Link Text Boxes.
