DesignImport a Label Template or Other Object

You can import a field data catalog, label template, image, layer object, layout, reusable object, or field data catalog into Loftware Enterprise SP if the object was previously exported to an import (SER) file. For information about exporting to an import file, see Export a Label Template or Other Object.

Tip: You can also import images that were not previously in Loftware Enterprise SP. For more information, see Import a New Image.

To import a field data catalog, label template, image, layer object, layout, reusable object, or field data catalog, use the following procedure.

Important: If you are importing objects that were exported via File > Export from Spectrum 5.0 or earlier versions, see Allow Unsigned Files to be Imported.

  1. Click Label Design Label Design or Application Design .
  2. Click File > Import.
  3. In the Import dialog box, click Browse and select an import file.
  4. In the Import Name field, you can specify what the name of the object will be in Loftware Enterprise SP.

    ClosedCharacters permitted in names

The following characters are permitted in the name: letters, numbers, parentheses, square brackets, ampersands, plus signs, equal signs, commas, semi-colons, and tildes. Additionally, the following characters are permitted but cannot begin or end the name: spaces, double quotation marks, single quotation marks, hyphens, underscores, periods, and grave accents. For letters, the case that you specify is displayed, but case is ignored when Loftware Enterprise SP interprets a name. If you will be installing the Loftware Enterprise SP application on a computer running Windows Server, and transferring data between Loftware Enterprise SP instances, see the "Transferring Data in a Compressed File" section of the Loftware Enterprise SP Data Transfer Guide.

  5. For Import Location, select a folder in Loftware Enterprise SP where the object will be saved.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Note: You cannot import an object from an import (SER) file into a folder in which an object with the same name already exists unless the folder is version-controlled and the object in the folder is checked in. If you import an object into a folder in which an object with the same name already exists, the version numbers use the following behavior:

    • If the exported object is a minor version, then the minor version number of the object is incremented. For example, if the object was version 1.5 before the import, then it will be version 1.6 after the import.

    • If the exported object is a published (major) version, then the version number of the object is published to the next major version. For example, if the object was version 1.5 before the import, then it will be version 2.0 after the import.
