Printer Scheduling

Description

This article discusses how to restrict printing, to a printer, to specific times in the day.

Solution

Although Loftware's native printer drivers do not currently have any scheduling settings, most Windows printer drivers, including Microsoft's Generic/Text Only driver, do offer scheduling.

If you are printing to a Windows printer, or using a Generic/Text Only driver to print to a native LLM driver, follow these steps to configure a printing schedule for the printer:

  1. From the Windows or Windows NT desktop, select Start | Settings | Printers to open the Windows printer folder.
  2. Right-click the Windows printer or Generic/Text Only driver in question and select Properties to display the Printer Properties dialog.
  3. On Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0, select the Scheduling tab; on Windows 2000/XP, select the Advanced tab.
  4. Select the Available From radio button and then adjust the availability times as desired. Click OK to save the changes and exit the Printer Properties dialog.

At this point, any jobs sent to the printer outside of the configured availability time frame (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM for example) are queued and remain pending until the printer becomes available, at which point the jobs print in the order in which they were received.
