How To Set Up Remotely And Print Via a PCAnywhere Session
Description
How to Print Via a PCAnywhere Session, setting Up a Remote Work Station to act as a Print Server to push data from LPS to a shared Generic Text driver.
Solution
The following is one possible design that is discusses printing via a PCAnywhere session.
Please be aware that this is NOT the optimal setup, but resolves connection issues when this is the only choice.
Computers
A = NT4.0 Server w/LPS
B = Win98 Workstation w/ pcAnywhere Host
C = Win98 Workstation w/PC Anywhere Client w/HP720 and Datamax I-4208 (LPT1 & LPT2)
- On C create a Generic Text driver pointed to LPT2 and set this as Default Printer. See the Printer Connections chapter User's Guide for information on creating a Generic Text driver if you do not know how do do this.
- Connect from C to B with PC Anywhere
- On B, create a remote printer.
- On B, share PC Anywhere Printer Driver with alias name. Example: Warehouse.
- On C, add Network Printer that was shared on B.
- On C, Test Print from Design.
- Pause Gen/Txt drivers on B and C, ensure that the print job is displayed in paused drivers.
To Create a Remote Printer
Create the remote through pcAnywhere.
Note: Do this only at the host machine
pcAnywhere 9.0
- Make a pcAnywhere connection to the host computer.
- On the host computer, launch pcAnywhere.
- Click Tools, then Application Options. The Application Options window is displayed.
- Click the Remote Printing tab, and Add. A printer selection list is displayed.
- Select the printer manufacturer and the printer model from the list, click Next.
- Enter a name for the printer (Ex. 'Warehouse'), click Finish.This printer is automatically assigned to Pcaw.prn.
pcAnywhere32 8.x
- Make a pcANYWHERE connection to the host computer.
- Launch pcAnywhere32 on the host computer.
- Click File, then Application Options. The Application Options window is displayed.
- Click Remote Printing, and Add, a printer selection list is displayed.
- Select the printer manufacturer and the printer model from the list, click Next.
- Enter an alias name for the printer, (Ex. 'Warehouse'), and click Finish. This printer is automatically assigned to Pcaw.prn (PCAW under Windows 2000).
