Substituting Bar Codes On TEC Printers

Description

Substituting or Remapping Bar Codes on TEC Printers is implemented through the use of the following reserved field names: Codabar, QRCode, RoyalMail, and KIX.

Solution

To create Codabar, QRCode, RoyalMail, or KIX bar code symbologies, make the following substitutions in SymbologyClosed Grouped bar and space patterns used to represent different characters, designed to meet the needs of a specific application or industry. Refer to the advanced bar code symbologies that are supported by Loftware that include PDF 417, Maxicode, MicroPDF, Datamatrix, PostNet, QR, TLC39, and GS1 Symbologies. and Field Names:

  • For Codabar, choose Code 93 as the Symbology, and name the bar code field Codabar_X. (where X = a unique identier for this bar code)
  • For QRCode, choose Datamatrix as the Symbology and name the bar code field QRCode_X
  • For RoyalMail, choose Postnet as the Symbology, and name the bar code field RoyalMail_X.
  • For KIX, choose Postnet as the Symbology, and name the bar code field KIX_X.

The naming requirement is not case sensitive.

Substitution Example

To add a Codabar Bar CodeClosed An array of parallel rectangular bars and spaces arranged according to the encodation rules of a particular symbol specification in order to represent data in machine-readable form. For Loftware purposes, the term "bar code" includes linear (For example: Code 39 and Code 128), two-dimensional (For example Data Matrix and MicroPDF417), and composite (For example: CC-A linked to GS1-Databar) machine-readable symbols. to a label, complete the following:

  1. Open a label, and add a bar code to the label.
  2. Click on the Symbology line in the Properties Box and choose Code93
  3. Name the bar code Codabar_X in the Field Name line of the Properties Box.
  4. Save the label.

The bar code now prints in the new symbology (Codabar).
Codabar remapping is also an optional setting in Preferences in Loftware Design Mode.
Go to Options > Preferences > TEC
If start/stop codes are not specified here, 'A' and 'D' are used. If you want to use other start/stop codes, specify them in Preferences separated by a comma.
Example
Enter 'C,D' for Start Code = C and Stop Code = D
You may also provide the Start and Stop codes in your data to override this setting.
Note: Code93 defaults to the FullAscii character mask, this may result in a "UNENCCHAR" warning message when saving the label. The symbology does, however, print correctly.
