Emulating an Intermec 86xx On a 3400

How do I set the Intermec 3400 to emulate an Intermec 86xx printer?

Solution

There are two possible ways to configure an Intermec 3400 for 86xx emulation: A Software command and Hardware Commands.

Software Command

Copy the following IPL syntax to port:
<STX><ESC>c0<ETX> for 10 mil, or
     <STX><ESC>c1<ETX> for 15 mil.

Hardware Commands

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Depress and hold down the Feed button while turning on the printer.
  3. Release the Feed button once labels begin to feed.
  4. On the Top Bank of Dip Switches, turn switch numbers 1 and 3 on, and number 2 off.
  5. Choose the following settings.
    • 86xx; 10mil; 4 on
    • 86xx; 15mil; 4 & 5 on
    • Advanced; 5mil; 4 & 5 off
    • Advanced; 2.5mil; 5 on
  6. Press feed/pause button.
  7. Verify that the correct settings are enabled via the configuration label that prints.
  8. Turn the printer off and back on.
