Disable Collating On a Windows Printer

Description

By default collating is enabled when printing to a Windows printer, but this is not always desirable. This article describes the printer configuration change needed to disable collation of labels printed to a Windows printer.

Requirements

Loftware LabelClosed A label is a design area on the computer screen where a label format is created or edited. Manager or Print Server with a Windows printer configured.

How to disable collating

  1. Open up the Windows Printers page
    • Printers and Faxes (XP, 2003)
    • Printers and Devices (Win 7)
    • Printers (2008).
  2. Right click and select Properties or Printing Properties.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Select Print directly to the printer instead of Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster.

Result

When the printer spools the documents it automatically collates the labels 1,2,3,4,5;1,2,3,4,5;1,2,3,4,5 for a quantity of 3. When Loftware prints directly to the printer the jobs are printed in the order received 1,1,1;2,2,2;3,3,3;4,4,4;5,5,5. This can be useful when a shipment needs multiples of the same document and there are multiple shipments.
