Conflicts Between Windows Printers And Direct Port Printing In Loftware Label Manager (LLM-WIN32)

Description

When printing from Loftware LabelClosed A label is a design area on the computer screen where a label format is created or edited. Manager directly to a local port (COM1 or LPT1 for example), I experience the following problem:

  • When printing to or attempting to retrieve Status from a Serial (COM) Port, the printer times out.
  • When printing to a shared printer, the labels are printed out of sequence.

Solution

These issues may arise if your system has a Windows printer configured to use the same port you are attempting to print directly to from Loftware Label Manager (LLM-WIN32). In this situation, the Windows environment may "capture" the port, resulting in:

  • The time-out error and/or
  • Jobs sent to the LPS (formerly WatchDog-NT) being intercepted by the Windows Driver, thus causing them to print out of sequence. You have two options for resolving these issues:
  1. Remove the Windows printer from your Printers folder or re-configure it to use a port that is not being used by Loftware Label Manager.
  2. Configure the printer that is being printed to directly from Loftware Label Manager to print using a "Generic / Text Only" driver.
