Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure.
Description
When attempting to start the Loftware Print Server service using the Windows Services Console you receive the following error:
Windows could not start the Loftware Print Server service on Local Computer. Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure.
Explanation
As the error above indicates, the account being used to run the Loftware Print Server service is unable to logon. This logon failure message is not an error specific to Loftware but can be displayed for any Windows service configured to use an account.
There are several common reasons for this error:
-
The password specified for the account used by the Loftware Print Server service is incorrect. Remember that passwords are case sensitive! You should reenter the password for the account which is set in the "Log On" tab of the service properties, then attempt to restart the Loftware Print Server service.
-
It's possible the current password for the account used by the Loftware Print Server service has expired. If so, this will require the password on the account to be changed and the new password set on the Loftware Print Server service as well.
- The account used by the Loftware Print Server has been marked as "Disabled" and must be re-enabled .
- The "Account is locked out" flag is set on the account used by the Loftware Print Server service. This can occur if the account attempts to log on with an incorrect password more than the number of times specified in the Password policy setting.
Solutions
-
When dealing with any Loftware Print Server issue, it's good practice to log into the system with the same account used by the LPS service before beginning troubleshooting. If possible, attempt to log into the system with the username and password expected. The Windows system may then provide a clue to the problem, for example a dialog box may indicate the password has expired and must be reset immediately. If that's the case, you'll need to specify a new password for the account and then adjust the password on the account used by the Loftware Print Server service as indicated above.
-
If you don't have administrative access to the server running the Loftware Print Server service, then you should contact your IT resource, explain the situation, and have your IT staff research the login failure including the possibilities listed above. (For example: Account is locked out, Account is disabled, etc.)
