SystemConfigure for Load Balancing

In a Loftware Enterprise SP environment using distributed services, you can configure Loftware Enterprise SP to load balance data services and most core services among all Loftware Application Servers. This approach typically prevents any noticeable interruption for users if a server goes offline.

Important! In a Loftware Enterprise SP environment with distributed services, all Loftware Application Servers that are online must be accessible to each client computer.

Tip: To prevent disruptions for users, it is recommended that you configure your Loftware Enterprise SP environment for high availability (load balancing with failover) rather than load balancing alone. For more information, see Configure for High Availability.

Although you can load balance services among all of your servers, depending on your environment and the capabilities of your servers, you also have the potential to optimize specific servers for specific tasks. For example, you can configure one or more servers to primarily support device group services.

To configure a service to be load balanced among all Loftware Application Servers, use the following procedure.

  1. In System System Management > Service Management, locate the core service or data service that you want to manage.

Note: The Service Management page is primarily relevant if your Loftware Enterprise SP environment includes two or more Loftware Application Servers installed as a distributed environment. For information about how to create a distributed Loftware Enterprise SP environment, see the Loftware Enterprise SP Installation and Configuration Guide.

  2. If the Concurrent Running Servers property is displayed, select All to indicate that all Loftware Application Servers in the distributed environment for which the service is activated should run the service concurrently.

Note: If the Concurrent Running Servers property is not displayed, then the service does not support load balancing. For information about configuring a service for failover instead, see Configure for Failover.

  3. In the instances table, select Activate for each Loftware Application Server.

Important! The Font Management Service should be activated and started on all Loftware Application Servers to ensure consistent fonts.
