DevicesConfigure Full Bleed Printing

Some Epson devices can be configured to perform full bleed printing, a technique in which the ink prints to the edges of a label and slightly beyond. If the label is applied to a surface that is the same color as what is printed, this prevents the background color of the label from showing near the edges of the label.

Important! This feature is supported only on Epson devices that use the ESC/Label language.

Note: When implementing full bleed printing, you must use label stock with a gap of at least 4mm between labels.

To configure an Epson ESC/Label device and a label template for full bleed printing, perform the following steps.

  1. In Devices Devices, open an Epson ESC/Label device.
    1. Click the Options tab.
    2. Configure the Label Top property, which defines the top edge of the print area, so that the label template's print area extends slightly above the top edge of the physical label. Reducing the value of this property shifts the print area upward relative to the media.

Note: You may have to enter a negative value for this property. If you are unable to enter a negative value, you may need to update the firmware for your printer.

    3. Configure the Label Left property, which defines the left edge of the print area, so that the label template's print area extends slightly beyond the left edge of the physical label. Reducing the value of this property shifts the print area leftward relative to the media.

Note: You may have to enter a negative value for this property. If you are unable to enter a negative value, you may need to update the firmware for your printer.

    4. Select the Borderless check box.
    5. In the ribbon, click SaveSave to save your changes to the device.
  2. In Label Design Label Design, open a label template.
    1. In the ribbon, on the Home tab, for Size select Custom.
    2. Adjust the Canvas Width and Canvas Height of the label template so that they are slightly larger than the width and height of the physical label so that the label template's print area extends slightly over the edges of the physical label.
    3. In the ribbon, click SaveSave to save your changes to the label template.

You have configured this device and this label template to print labels using full bleed printing.
