DevicesMedia Options for Toshiba Devices

If the Family selected is Family Driver and the Model selected is TPCLClosed Tec Printer Command Language, a programming language from Toshiba for communication between a computer and a printer., then the Media tab displays the following options. Some options may not be relevant to some device models.

If the Family selected is Toshiba and a specific model is selected, then only options appropriate to that model are displayed. For more information about drivers and Loftware Enterprise™ SP, see Managing Devices.

Option Description Values

Media Type

The printing method used by the device.

Thermal Transfer (Ribbon): Uses ribbon and non-heat sensitive label stock to print. The print head is activated as the label moves underneath heating the ribbon material and melting it onto the label. To increase the quality of the print decrease/increase the speed and increase/decrease the heat as necessary. (Default)

Direct Thermal (No Ribbon): Uses heat sensitive label stock without a ribbon. The print head is activated as the label moves underneath heating the label stock and activating the heat sensitive material in the stock causing darkening of the material. To increase the quality of the print, decrease/increase the speed and increase/decrease the heat as necessary.

Ribbon Saver

Whether to turn on the auto economy feature. If selecting this setting, it is recommended that you evaluate whether the reduced ribbon use sufficiently offsets the cost of the more frequent use of the motor that may result.

Note: This option is active only if Media Type is set to Thermal Transfer.

Stock Type

The type of media loaded in the device.

Mark: Black line or mark on the label stock backing.

Continuous: No gaps or separations between labels.

Die Cut: Stock that has a gap between labels.

Preprinted Die Cut: Stock that has some preprinted content and has gap between labels.

Manual Threshold: Stock that has a gap between labels and for which you have manually configured the voltage on the printer.

Print Speed The speed at which the label travels over the print head.

2 to 14 inches per second (ips)

Default: 6ips

Print Density The darkness relative to the current device setting.

-30 to 30

Default: 0

Gap Length

The distance between consecutive labels.

20 to 15000 tenths of a millimeter

Default: 20 tenths of a millimeter
