DesignOverride Device Options with Layout Specific Options

Layout Specific Options enable a DesignerClosed Person who creates and designs label templates, forms, and applications for use by Data Providers. to override device settings on a per-layout, per-device model basis. Layout Specific Options override device options and Label Specific Options (LSOs), and device options override the settings on the device itself if Send Device Options is enabled. For more information, see Override Device Options with Label Specific Options.

Tip: If available for the device, Send Device Options can be configured on the Advanced tab in a Layout Specific Option or in Devices Devices.

Each Layout Specific Option that you create is associated with a specific layout and with a specific device model or device family. If no Layout Specific Options are included in a layout, then the Label Specific Options or device options configured in Devices Devices are used.

Best Practice

It is recommended that device options be configured in Devices Devices and overridden by Layout Specific Options and Label Specific Options only where necessary.

To add a collection of Layout Specific Options to a layout, use the following procedure.

  1. In Label Design Label Design, open a layout.
  2. In the View tab, click the Layout Specific Options.
  3. In the Layout Specific Options box, click Add to open the Add Device Options dialog box.
  4. For Family, select the family of the devices for which you want to override settings.
  5. For Model, select the model of the devices for which you want to override settings.
  6. For each setting that you want to override, select the Override check box, and then configure the option. (If there is more than one check box for the setting, the Override check box is the first one following the option name.)

Tip: For information about specific device options, see Device Driver Options.

Tip: If overriding the Paper Size or Paper Source option for a server spooler device, you are not limited to selecting from the values displayed. You can type in a custom value.

Note: The Send Field As setting specified in the Properties for a barcode field overrides the option for the relevant symbology on the Barcode Imaging tab for Layout Specific Options, Label Specific Options, and device options. For more information, see Common Properties for Barcodes.

  7. Click OK to save the Layout Specific Options collection.
  8. Click File > Save or click on the toolbar to save the layout.

Important! A Layout Specific Option is part of a layout. If you do not save the layout, the Layout Specific Option that you created will be discarded when you close the layout.
