Access ControlControl Access to a Device Group

To manage who can view, change, or delete a specific device and view or change a device queue, use the following procedure to configure default permissions for the device group.

Note: Consider keeping all device groups and devices within a folder and configuring the default permissions at the folder level.

  1. In Access Control Access Control, click the device group in the Access Control Tree.
  2. Define the permissions in the Default Permissions panel.
    • To grant a permission, click Empty check box (inherited) once to change it to granted Granted.
    • To deny a permission, click Empty check box (inherited) twice to change it to denied Denied.
    • To inherit the default permission from the folder containing this object, clear the check box to change the permission to inherited Empty check box (inherited).

    Tip: You can double-click a row or column header to grant, deny, or clear permissions in that entire row or column.

  3. Configure any exceptions to the default permissions.
    1. In the Group Permissions or User Permissions panel, click Add .
    2. In the Add Group or Add User dialog box, select a group or user, and then click OK.
    3. In the Group Permissions or User Permissions panel, click the group or user name to expand the permissions table for that group or user.
    4. Define the exception's permissions as in step 2.
  4. Click File > Save or Save .
  5. Configure access to the device queue. For more information, see Configuring Device Queue Access.

Configuring Device Queue Access

Users with the appropriate permissions can start, stop, or pause a device queue, and cancel, move, or release a specific print job or jobs in a queue. Use the following procedure to allow users to view and perform actions on device queues.

  1. For each applicable role, grant Queue permissions for Device Groups:
    1. In Access Control Access Control , click a role.
    2. In the ribbon, click Home > Permissions. The Permissions dialog box for the role is displayed.
    3. In the Permissions Management section, grant Granted Queue permissions in the Device Groups row.
    4. Click Close.
  2. To allow a user or group to cancel print jobs in a device queue, grant Delete permissions for Jobs on the Job Target folder for each applicable user or group:
    1. In Access Control Access Control, click the Job Target folder.
    2. In the Group Permissions or User Permissions panel, click Add .
    3. In the Add Group or Add User dialog box, select a group or user, and then click OK.
    4. In the Group Permissions or User Permissions panel, click the group or user name to expand the permissions table for that group or user.
    5. In the permissions table for the group or user, grant Granted Delete permissions in the Jobs row.
    6. Click File > Save or Save .
  3. To allow a user or group to move print jobs from one device queue to another device queue, grant Write permissions for Jobs on the Job Target folder for each applicable user or group:
    1. In Access Control Access Control, click the Job Target folder.
    2. In the Group Permissions or User Permissions panel, click Add .
    3. In the Add Group or Add User dialog box, select a group or user, and then click OK.
    4. In the Group Permissions or User Permissions panel, click the group or user name to expand the permissions table for that group or user.
    5. In the permissions table for the group or user, grant Granted Write permissions in the Jobs row.
    6. Click File > Save or Save .
