User Interface: TCP/IP Connection Type
The TCP/IP connection type uses TCP to connect to devices.
When configuring a device connection, the following options are available in the Connection tab when you select TCP/IP as the connection type.
Note: Not all connection types are available to all device families and models. The options available are dependent on the type of connection and device family selected.
Option | Description | Values |
---|---|---|
Remote Site |
A computer that has wired, wireless, or network connections to devices that are not directly accessible by a Loftware Application Server. The Loftware Print Agent must be installed on the Remote Site so that it can communicate with the Loftware Application Server and make those devices available in Loftware Enterprise SP. Each Remote Site can communicate with only one Loftware Application Server. Note: A Remote Site must run a Windows Server or Windows operating system. |

Option |
Description |
Values |
---|---|---|
IP Address |
The IP address or DNS name of the networked device. For a local device not accessible by IP address, the IP address or DNS name of the computer to which it is connected. Note: If using LPR Protocol, do not use the generic name localhost in place of the IP address or DNS name. |
IP address or DNS name |
IP Port |
The IP port number of the networked device. Tip: For a local device, enter 515. |
Valid port number |
Protocol |
The protocol to use when accessing the device. |
Standard: Device is accessible via standard TCP/IP LPR: Device is accessible only via USB, parallel, or serial port |
LPR Queue |
The device name or the share name for the device. Sharing the device is not required. This field is not case-sensitive. This option is displayed only if the Protocol is set to LPR. |
Device name or share name |
Connection Timeout Settings
Option |
Description |
Values |
---|---|---|
Connection Attempt Timeout |
The length of time to attempt to connect to a device. If a connection is not achieved, then Loftware Enterprise SP waits for the length of time specified in Retry Wait Time before attempting the connection again. |
Time in milliseconds |
Retry Wait Time |
The length of time to wait for a device connection error to be resolved before retrying the connection. |
Time in milliseconds |
Fail Job on Connection Error |
If a connection error occurs, whether or when a print job will be failed. |
Never: The job is not failed. Immediate: The job fails immediately. Timeout: The job fails if the Job Retry Timeout limit is reached. |
Job Retry Timeout |
If connection errors occur, the length of time after which to cease connection attempts and classify a print job as failed. This option is displayed only if Fail Job on Connection Error is set to Timeout. Tip: Coordinate this value with Connection Attempt Timeout and Retry Wait Time. For example, if you want to attempt a connection for 5 seconds, wait for 10 seconds, repeat, and classify the job as failed if a connection has not been achieved within 1 minute, then you would set Connection Attempt Timeout to 5000, Retry Wait Time to 10000, and Job Retry Timeout to 60. |

Advanced Connection Settings
Option |
Description |
Values |
---|---|---|
Force Extended Mode |
Whether to always use extended mode or allow Loftware Enterprise SP to automatically select the print job mode. When using extended mode, Loftware Enterprise SP analyzes the content of each field in a label template separately. Also, if the quantity is greater than 1, the label is sent to the device each time. This option is not displayed for devices that use the Generic driver. |
|
Shared Network Printing |
Whether the device will be used by software other than Loftware Enterprise SP. |
|
Raw LPR |
Whether to prevent the operating system driver from altering the print stream, which could have unpredictable results. Selecting this option is recommended. This option is displayed only if the Protocol is set to LPR. |
|
Document Name |
Allows you to format how print jobs from this device connection are identified in the Windows Server device queue. This option does not affect what appears in the printed label. This field is parsed for instances of ${<value>}, #{<value>}, %{<value>}, which are replaced with the corresponding data sources. The maximum length is 131 characters. If the string entered resolves to an empty string, it is replaced with SpectrumDoc. This option is displayed only if the Protocol is set to LPR. |

|
Automated Device Health Check |
Whether Loftware Enterprise SP's automated device health check is enabled for this device. This option is displayed only for devices that use the Generic driver. For all other drivers, the automated health check is enabled and is not configurable. |
|
Test Connection to Device |
Use the specified TCP or USB connection settings to attempt to connect to the device. This option is displayed only for devices using a TCP-based or USB connection type. |
