In the Properties pane, you can select your printer, set label dimensions, and define the printing media properties:

  • In the Printer selection, you define which printer you will use. The printer you select affects the size of your printed label. The Selected printer drop-down menu shows all printers of all Control Center users with desktop Designer installed and connected. The printer list displays printers in alphanumeric order. When you click the Preview & Print button, you can select another printer in your print form, but the label size may change, or the label design may not be compatible with a different printer.

  • Paper: Most thermal printers print on Labels on a roll and most office printers print on Sheets of paper. Check your printer manual to select the right paper.

  • Select the right Orientation option. For example, you designed your labels in landscape format, but your printer prints vertical (portrait-oriented) labels. Select the Portrait option. Some industrial processes also demand that labels print rotated by 180°.

  • The Label section specifies your label design dimensions.

    • Units: You can choose between cm, in, and mm. The default unit is mm.

    • Width and Height define the label's dimensions.

  • Corners enable you to make the label corners rectangular or elliptical. Rectangular locks Vertical and Horizontal radii together to make symmetrical corners. In the Elliptical setting, each radius is set independently, but the Vertical radius can't be larger than half of the label size.

    [Note] Note

To create a circle label layout:

    1. Go to Label, and set the same values for Width and Height to create a square label.

    2. Divide your width and height measure by 2, and enter the value under Horizontal Radius and Vertical Radius.

  • In the Margins (Offsets) section, you define the distance between the edge of the printing surface and the edges of the label design. Most laser and other non-thermal printers can't print over the entire label surface.

  • Description: Enter the basic information about your label. The description serves as a hint or a guide for other users who are going to edit or print the label. This is not necessary, but a good practice, especially when it comes to samples. For example, use the description to note if there's a database file connected to the label that the user must copy. The description is visible in the label file preview in Control Center.

To edit object properties, click on that object. The properties pane opens on the right side of the screen.

If no object is selected, the Label properties pane is blank.

If you chose multiple objects, you can open a drop-down menu in the Properties pane with Copy, Cut, Paste, and Delete options.

When you select multiple objects, you can drag them as a unit. To select an object, you have to go over the object border. Read more on selecting label objects in Working with label objects.
