Description

When printing labels designed for an Intermec 8646 to an Intermec 4400 printer, all fields on the label print shifted to the right approximately 1".

Solution

This issue usually occurs when attempting to print an 8646 label with a width that is less than that of the print head of the 4400 it is being printed to. In order for the label to print correctly, both of the following configuration changes must be made to the printer:

To Enable 8646 Emulation

  1. With the 4400 on, press the [ON LINE/OFF LINE] button to take the printer off-line.
  2. Press [MENU] and using the arrow buttons, select 'Configuration Menu'; press [SELECT].
  3. Use the arrow buttons until 'Basic' is displayed; press [SELECT].
  4. Press the arrow buttons until 'Emulation' is displayed; press [SELECT].
  5. Use the arrow buttons to select '8636/46' (10 or 15 mil); press [Enter].
  6. Press the [ON LINE/OFF LINE] button; the printer is now in emulation mode.

To Set the Label Width

  1. With the 4400 on, press the [ON LINE/OFF LINE] button to take the printer off-line.
  2. Press [MENU] and then using the arrow buttons, select 'Configuration Menu'; press [SELECT].
  3. Use the arrow buttons until 'Label' is displayed; press [SELECT].
  4. Use the arrow buttons until 'Label Width' is displayed; press [SELECT].
  5. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the label width to match that of your Loftware Label Manager format(s) and press [Enter].
  6. Press the [ON LINE/OFF LINE] button; the label width is now set.

Having made both of these configuration changes, initiate a Test Print from Design Mode to verify that your labels are now printing correctly.
