Message
Printers within the Loftware Print Server using Loftware native drivers can be configured with the following connection types:
- Port
- Print Manager Spooling
- TCP/IP
- Web User
Those Printers having a Web User connection setting are designed to send print jobs to Web Listener clients.
If a Loftware WebAccess user attempts to print to a printer with a Web User connection type, and the associated Web Listener is not running on the client machine, the LWA user will receive the following error:
[msg 1005] Requested Print Job encountered a Critical failure while printing to Printer Number x
Explanation
In this particular case, the Web Listener simply needed to be started on the client computer so that it can receive and process print jobs from the LPS.
- Although the LWA user receives a message that the requested print job encountered a "Critical failure", the LPS Status Client will list that job as a Spooled Job and NOT a Critical Failure so the message recieved by the LWA user is somewhat misleading.
- There are other causes that can result in the LWA user receiving the error: [msg 1005] Requested Print Job encountered a Critical failure while printing to Printer Number x
Reproduction
- Configure a printer on the LPS with a Web User connection type.
- Attempt to print from LWA to that printer without a Web Listener client connected using the specified Web User.
The attempt to print in step 2 will result in the error: [msg 1005] Requested Print Job encountered a Critical failure while printing to Printer Number x
