Description

When attempting to link a field on my label to a field in an Access database, I am able to select the data source name from the data source dialog box in Design, but no database fields are available to select.

Explanation

This issue may arise if the user who is attempting to configure the label in Design does not have the rights required from Access to view fields for the database in question.

Solution

In order for the user to be able to view the database's fields in the data source configuration dialog in Design, they must have "Read Design" rights:

  1. Open the database in question in Microsoft Access.
  2. Select Tools | Security | User and Group Permissions from the File menu.
  3. Select the user in question in the "User and Group Permissions" dialog, and under "Permissions", place a check-mark in the box labeled Read Design.
  4. Click OK; exit Access.

The user is now able to see the database's fields in Loftware Design Mode.
